Good to see that some people have the same or similar opinions Smile

I definitely would love to see the Closed Australian Championships but only as a new and different competition or another event during NCDC, South Pacific or Australian Open.

It's an old topic but the problem is when the organisers pay a lot of money to the top international couples to come to Australia (paying them for accommodation, flight tickets, organising lessons etc) and there is no money to be picked up from the floor for Aussie couples.

At the moment I believe too much money are wasted on the floor shows and getting oversees couples. Aussie and kiwi couples would come to Canberra and Melbourne without those shows too. Majority of us are going to compete, not watch. All those money could be spent for really good prize money which should attract few good oversees couples to come, so the level of competition wouldn't be any lower.

Sorry, I must have worded it wrong. I agree with all three.

On the note about attracting competitors:
I see the Singapore Millienium comp offers 2 nights free accomodation to all overseas conpetitors that contest open events. That's a good way to attract attention.

Having overseas couples at the Australian Championships is fantastic. Having our Australian association paying for them, well that just really sucks totally. Our top Australian couples are given the Rep no. 1 and no. 2 to dance at the World Championships, representing our country, and our Association gives them not even enough to cover the No. 1 Rep's airfares let alone No. 2 who gets far less. Yet, they pay for foreigners airfares, accommodation and god knows what else. I'm sure they don't even pay for a taxi fare.
Wake up Australian Dancesport and give our top couples the financial support to represent Australia and not bankrupt their bank accounts and that of their parents and supporters. They are working hard to get themselves recognised and make our country proud, and our own Association gives the money to foreigners!
That's what I think.

While I agree with most of what you say Starry, I need to correct you on one point. Both Number 1 and 2 (where there are 2 eligible reps) receive equal funding - such that it is. $1000 per couple does not go very far.

Ok, didn't know that they both got $1,000. Still, that pays for a one-way fare to the UK. Pathetic. Michael and Milana have been doing a lot of work for Australia. It's a shame our industry can't support them more. I sure don't know how Matt and Anna did it!
