Dancing 3 Styles
Something Jet54 wrote in the State competition section struck a chord with me. I cannot think of many couples who regularly dance 3 styles, and want to applaud those who do.
Often the style dropped is New Vogue, a uniquely Australian style that is full of grace and musicality. It is a pity that it is so often seen as the poor relation, mostly because it is not danced overseas. When is Australia going to get over it's inferiority complex?
Other 2 style couples drop Latin, because they feel that New Vogue is somehow aligned to Ballroom, and therefore easier to combine. I can't think of a single 2 style couple that does Latin and New Vogue! :-)
So, congratulations to all couples, young and old, who take on the challenge in both time and effort to dance 3 styles. I know I risk missing quite a lot, but let's start the list, and feel free to add to it:
Brandon and Amelia
Declan and Kirsty
David and Rachel
James and Sam
Thebang and Jessica
Andrew and Shannen
Andrew & Dianne Buswell are the only level4/5 WA couple (above Junior) I can think of that consistently dance all 3 styles, and do them all well.
Recently retired WA Masters couple Glenys & James Kerr did mainly Latin & New Vogue but occasionally thru in Standard. Also Ken & Simone Turner do only Latin & New Vogue.
Most Juniors do all three styles and I would say also many couples level 3 and below.
I also lament that New Vogue is not taken more seriously by Australian competitors. It is a beautiful and elegant style.
