Aus SYTYCD Episode 4
I am starting my little write-up this week BEFORE the results show. That is a first for me.
Another interesting show with quite a variety of styles and choreography and.. I was going to say NO WEIRD ONES but Rhys & Jemma's was a bit weird, but it worked, so no problem.
What got into Matt & Bonny last night? They DIDN'T love everything. I even thought they were being a bit harsh on a couple of occasions. The produces must have had a word in their ears.
The routines.. Rhys & Jemma gave the show a great start. I thought probably Rhys had a bit more body movement than Jemma but she had a great go and it may be a little easier because he has a longer body to move. They certainly seemed to pull the routine off and it was a spunky routine. Didn't think the outfit did Jemma any favours but I did love the hair!
Jack and Demi a had a fair go at the Rumba but I do agree with the judges that the decision not to wear shoes was costly. I thought the dress and choreography was nice. Very hard to get that rumba hip action without heels. There is a reason that even the guys wear heels in Latin!
Semsah & Camilla didn't quite do it for me tonight. It was okay but didn't grab me. I suspect Sermsah being worried about Camilla's finger was a large part of the problem. I did like Camilla with the long hair for a change.
At the time, I thought the judges were being harsh on Anthony & Laura. I thought they did a good job, and thought that Laura was better than usual.... until I saw Graeme and Kate. WOW! I am not always a big fan of contempory, but good contemporary is great. Now I understood where the judges were coming from with Laura & Anthony, as the stories behind the two routines were similar.
Graeme and Kate nailed it. the emotion and dancing and costumes were great.
More latin in bear feet from Henry & Vanessa, but this time it worked! There probably wasn't a LOT of traditional Samba in there, but the African theme, some Samba, a lot of tricks and some great dancing meant that it worked well anyway. It was over too quick. I always knew Henry would sizzle at Samba but Vanessa did great too. I didn't really think she belonged in the first week, but she is improving by leaps and bounds. Well done!
Rhiannon & DJ. Well the judges seemed to like it but I wonder if they were just trying to boost their confidence after last week. Personally, I didn't think the music went with a top hat and tails Jazz routine. Maybe I am old-fashioned. That certainly wasn't the dancers fault though. I thought they did well in the first part with the hats. When everything went wild though, I didn't think JD was really there and I got the feeling he was just rushing through and doing the steps.
Now we shall have to wait and see how the votes go tonight.
I would firstly like to say that i am disapointed with this show, not because of the talent of it but the way it is being run. Out of the three judges Jason is the only one, in my opinion, deserving to be on the panel. While Matt is a brillinat dancer and choreographer i dont feel he is as good a critic and judge. And Bonnie, i find her annoying as she is to nice, this isn't a workshop but a competition between some of Australias best dancers.
but nevertheless thats just my opinion,
Firstly i would have to see that Graeme and Kate really upped the level of dancing on this show, i agree Filcha, that their contemporary performance was brilliant. The connection the showed was evident through their togetherness and the overall flow of the dance. They were so syncronized, and all the lifts were executed superbly. Brilliant dancing from both!
My next favorite was Henry and Vanessa, i would tend to slightly disafree with you on this one Filcha in relation to choreography, the african feel was really showing the roots of the dance, remember it is not all south-american. Granted their tricks were excellent, but this dance was both entertaining and wonderfully danced. Vanessa impressed me tonight too, as often she seems behind Henry. Henry, for me i sa very strong contendor in this competition.
I also enjoyed Rhys and Jemma, Jemma is a beautiful dancer and to agree with the judges i must say that Rhys is very versatile, and has showed us different sides to his dancing.
I didn't like Rhiannon and DJ, and Anthony and Laura's dancing tonight. I feel that the show also detracts from the performance by showing their rehearsals so indepth. ie explaining the Anthony's Jump detracted from the jump in his performance, i was expecting something more but really it was still good.. left me unsatisfied..
well thats it untill next time..
Yep I agree with you manfredi. Jason just says everything I am thinking... because he knows what he is saying... Occasionally I may not agree with what he says but 90% I do. As for Bonnie she has really annoyed me with her stupidness, Matt I am still holding out on him just haven't decided where he fits into things. For me JD should have left as he does not have the overall talent that the others do... Henry, Rhys are so versatile that one of them could win it... and yet Jemma has proved she can too... So it will be interesting to see what the public decide!
