Aus SYTYCD Episode 3
Well this week I actually got to watch the episode on Sunday but still didn't get to post my comments until after the results episode.
Firstly, after not always having kind words for Jason Gilkison's choreography on the show, this time he gets a 'Great!' from me. His Paso had plenty of Paso steps and feel as well as few different things to make it a bit more spectacular. When I heard Rhys & Jemma had Paso I was a bit worried because I thought Rhys had failed with the Vampire character last week but boy, he did well this week. He CAN dance like a man. Congrats Rhys. Jemma, as always, was terrific. The costumes and music helped to make this the routine of the night for me.
What a shame about the Argentine Tango. I thought it was well chreographed and quite difficult. I didn't think they had the techniquue down pat but they were having a go until JD lost it. Unfortunately the sympathy vote meant they weern't in the bottom 3, as I believe JD should have been the next guy to go. He is great at his own style but I think he is struggling with other styles. Personally I would have like to have seen Rhiannon paired with Marko - the two pocket dynamos.
I have whinge about the show. What's with all the weird dance types? Even the judges didn't know about 'Soul Swing' or 'Contemporary Disco'???? There are enough 'established dance styles out there without confusing everyone, including the dancers and judges with this wacky stuff.
Poor Anthony, Laura, Henry, Vanessa, Graeme and Kate were behind the eight-ball because of the wacky styles. I was pleased Kate and Graeme escaped the bottom three despite the 'Hip-hop Bollywood' - and wasn't Kate ecstatic! Thought Henry coped with the comtemporary routine very well for a ballroom guy. He is turning out to be very versatile.
Sermsah & Camilla's Japanese fighting routine was interesting - at least at the start and end. It lost my attention in the middle. I thought they both handled it well.
Not big on Krump myself, but there were obvious timing issues there so I guess they deserved bottom three, although I don't think Marko really had a chance to shine.
Jack out-shone Demi - but she put in a good effort. Jack was sensational. I didn't mind the cheesiness at all!
Down to the results. Personally, I think Rhiannon & JD should have been in the bottom three, that would have made life easier because then Stephanie & JD could've gone. I think Laura was lucky Stephanie was there with her otherwise she would have gone. Didn't want any of the three guys to go. Guess I knew it would be Marko but as I said before, I don't think we had the chance to see his best. One thing I would like to say is that Stephanie really surprised and impressed me with her solo. It is hard for a ballroom girl to solo and she did a great job.
Well enough of my ramblings... responses welcome!
i'm just going to make one comment... that for me the Australian version is more entertainment than competition. I won't go as far to say that it is rigged, but there was a lot i havn't agreed with. Some of the best dancers hav left the show, and others no offense but JD for example should have left a long time ago. Personally i would have thought the Hilton would have been in the top 3 but he's gone.. granted there was'nt much improvement but is this a search for the most improved dancer or Australias best??
Well, on an other hand Henry danced the contemporary ruitine very well i thought, perhaps even better than his classicaly trained partner. He is definately one of my favorites, along with Jack Chambers and Demi..
Yes, I think that Australia tends to vote for 'favourite' rather than 'best'.
Is that not the slogan "find Australia's most popular dancer". Not the best dancer. I know they used to stress this in the US version. It is so true that many of the best dancers have already been voted off. And many lacking in skills are still there.
