Isn't there some kind of formula that needs to be followed re numbers recalled for events??
On another note, I have heard that in the Youth Open Latin the next few places were:
7th Declan Taylor and Kirsty Andlovec
8th Chris Cannock and Hannah Donovan
9th David Mitchell and Rachel Macintosh
Can anyone confirm this and maybe fill in the rest of the semi places??
dancingisamazing- 07-10-2008
yes i wonder wat the rule is for having a 6 couple final or including a 7 or 8 couple final?? if anyone knows could they please explain the system that is used by dancesport australia. also, is there anyone that danced an event in canberra which had a 6 couple final but had very close recalls in the semi between 6th, 7th or even 8th place (by close i mean within 5 or less recalls of one another). sorry just trying to figure it out.

Dancesport RulesHi all. There is a link from the Dancesport Australia site to a pdf file that details all the rules -
http://www.dancesport.org.au/competition/2008rules.pdf
There are some relevant clauses in the section called 'Event Regulations Section' beginning on page 33.
Clauses that may be of interest in this discussion:
Clause 21.8
In the final of a Championship, Competition, or Unrestricted Competition when the couples are being placed in order of merit by the adjudicators, the skating system of dealing with the marks, or such other system as the National Council may from time to time determine, shall be used.
Clause 21.10
The organiser shall agree with the chairman of adjudicators the number of heats in each round of competition and the number of couples in a final, except that the organiser must limit the number of couples in each heat or the final if there shall be any danger to the health and safety of the couples from overcrowding.
Clause 22.11
It is strongly recommended that at least 50% of those taking part in any round of a Championship be passed through to the next round. The organiser shall agree with the chairman of adjudicators the number of couples in the final.
From these clauses it looks as though the Organiser and the Chairman of Adjudicators make the decisions.
Hope this helps.

thank you... so there is no official rule, the decision is made entirely by the organiser and the chairman of adjudicators. i think it would be wise to make a formal rule to alleviate any conflict of interest in the future.

Dancesport Rules
Hi again.
I guess it goes both ways.
Consider:
Dancesport Aust makes a firm ruling such as '50% of the couples from the previous round will advance to the next round'.
If there were 26 in the quarter final, that would mean 13 in the semi-final. Then there would have to be 6 or 7 in the final.
Will still come down to a judgment call by the Chairman of Adjudicators.
If couples 5 and 6 receive say 28 and 29 recalls and then couple 7 receives 22 recalls, and couple 8 has 21 recalls I think you'd have to cut it off at couple 6.
However, if couple 5 receives 28 recalls and couples 6 and 7 have 22 recalls, you'd like to think it would be a 7 couple final.
Under the present ruling - ie at least 50% of the couples ... you could have a 7 couple final.
If you had a firm ruling - ie 50% of the couples ... then how would you split couples 6 and 7?
What if you had a semi final of 10 couples? - the Chairman instructs the adjudicators to recall 5 couples to the final and that's how the adjudicators mark their cards.
Then, when the results come in the Chairman sees that the recalls are something like:
Couple No 4 - 28
Couples 5 and 6 - 27
Couple 8 - 26
What would you like the Chairman to do now? Just have a 4 couple final? (Not very interesting for the spectators - and has an impact on competitions that are 'ranking' events).
So - my summary and thoughts?
The current rule - ie as determined by the Organiser and the Chairman of Adjudicators - gives the flexibility needed to cater for a range of situations.
What do others think?

Hi,
This is interesting and the explanation above seems logical. I believe there have been 12 couple semis in most cases on sunday night and it was announced that six couples are to be recalled. So I am under the impression that in those instances, 7 couples are recalled if 6 and 7 tie, or have maybe 1 recall difference.
Do other people have marks from semifinals, and can perhaps say what the differences were between 6 and 7, or between the last couple to make final and the next couple in who didn't?This way we can see what the pattern for recall is perhaps.

Lauren MacFarlane is an Amazing dancer, perhaps Michael is holding her back, but that is her decision. For me Aric was way ahead of them..
Anyway, heres the Semi results from the Adult Open Standard liam. Well done btw mate.
7th Steven Grinsberg and Rachelle Plaas
8th Tim Mullyanov and Yulia - NZ
9th David and Jessica Allen
10th Liam and Prue Hatcher
11th Chris Page and Asta
12th David Mitchell and Rachel.
An excellent top12!

Does anyone know the recall numbers from semi to final for adult open standard? Was it close for any couples, or was there anyone who perhaps just missed out? Perhaps Manfredi might know? Cheers and well done to all the wonderful couples! I really enjoyed the event, I also think Antonio and Bianca improved, and won't Mathew Rooke and Anna great!...
